The man who ended the Silver Rail Elementary shooting in Bend, Oregon, isn't taking the credit. Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter with two daughters at the school, says the teacher who was physically fighting the 16-year-old gunman is what gave him a clear shot.
Giamanco says he grabbed the handgun from his truck, army-crawled through shot-out glass, and fired when he saw the teacher struggling with the shooter. Three children and a teacher were killed; police say his actions saved many lives.
He told OPB he is haunted by the sound of children “pleading for their lives” and wants to apologize to the families for not getting there sooner. Collin Rugg's clip of the interview has more than 41,000 likes and 2.5 million views on X.
