Cobb County, Georgia wanted to honor Native Americans. What it got was a viral clip that End Wokeness says “could be a South Park skit.” In the 72-second video from the county commission chamber, a speaker in feathers, shell necklaces and face paint introduces himself as Chief Moon Hawk of the Yamassee-Guale Nation of Georgia, then names his companions — Lightning Arrow, Shining Star, Strong Earth Woman and Fighting Bear — before thanking Chairwoman Lisa Cupid for the proclamation.

“It’s an honor and a pleasure to not only have a proclamation, but to show the diversity,” he says, adding that the group is continuing its “fight for state recognition.” The group’s own website describes Chief Moon Hawk as principal chief of the AhíTvlâōfoh Yamassee-Guale Nation of Georgia and says he is leading “a multi-year effort to secure state recognition in Georgia” — meaning the state doesn’t recognize the tribe yet, though Cobb County is happy to issue it a proclamation. The group says the City of East Point gave it a proclamation last December too.

“Cobb County honors Native Americans by having an African American in tribal attire identify as being an ‘indigenous person,’” End Wokeness (@EndWokeness) posted Thursday. The post has more than 23,000 likes and 670,000 views. The video is embedded above.
