Obama said he learned about the IRS targeting conservatives 'from the news' — MAZE reminds X his own aides knew weeks earlier
Broken Truth · In Other News
May, 2013. The news breaks that Obama's IRS had been targeting conservatives. Obama first addressed it by claiming that he had just recently heard about it on the news. The President said that he heard about it on the news. Even more ridiculous, the media went along with it.

The IRS was singling out Tea Party and "patriot" groups, and the President of the United States said he found out the same way everybody else did: from the news. At a May 13, 2013 press conference Barack Obama said, "I first learned about it from the same news reports that I think most people learned about this. I think it was on Friday."
Within a week, the White House acknowledged that staff in its counsel's office had heard about the coming inspector general's report as early as April 16, and that White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler, told it would likely find IRS employees improperly scrutinized groups using words like "tea party" and "patriot," passed that on to chief of staff Denis McDonough and other senior advisers — but, the White House said, not to Obama, AP reported.
