The plan, according to The New York Times, was almost cartoonishly simple: in the summer of 2025 a staffer for Democrat Mary Peltola was told by top campaign aides to “find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as you can” — and the staffer combed voter records to build the list. Alaska’s Republican senator is Dan S. Sullivan. This spring a retired teacher from a tiny Panhandle fishing village named Dan J. Sullivan entered the race.

The Times says the effort, called internally the “ballot composition project,” involved Peltola’s campaign lawyers and senior Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee aides, and tried to coax other spoilers onto the ballot too. Peltola’s former campaign manager Elisa Rios said Peltola wasn’t directly involved but was “definitely aware.” Both the Peltola campaign and the DSCC deny recruiting any candidates.

“TRUMP DOJ VINDICATED,” Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) posted Wednesday with a nearly four-minute video, saying votes for the “fake Dan Sullivan” should be blocked. The Justice Department has already sued to stop certification if the namesake’s votes could have cost the senator the race. The video is embedded above.
